Breakfast comes with every bed and is served between 8:00 and 11:00. On Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, the same rooftop hosts a buffet family dinner.

Three nights a week

Every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, the long tables become a buffet dinner.

LKR 1,650 per person. Tell us before 2:00 PM on the day you want to join.

The room has no fourth wall

The top floor is open on the valley side. There is a railing, and then nothing, and then the ridge across the gap. It is not a view you lean out of a window to find. It is the room’s fourth wall.

The roof over it is translucent green panelling and shade netting on a black steel frame. That one detail is the whole character of the place: under it, the concrete floor, the tables, the cushions and everyone’s forearms go a soft sea-glass green. A few steps away, past the railing, the light snaps back to hard white sun. Two temperatures of light, a few steps apart, all day.

Underneath: long timber tables with benches, and a row of stools facing the valley. Rattan lampshades hung on rope. Potted plants. Hanging egg chairs. A dog called Sando. Next door, under its own roof, a pool table.

There are no two-person tables up here. That is not an oversight.

Breakfast, 8:00 to 11:00

It comes with the bed. Not a package, not an upgrade, not an add-on at the desk — you booked a bed, so you get breakfast, and so does everyone else at the table.

Drinking water is free

There is a filtered dispenser on the property and you can fill a bottle from it whenever you like, at no charge, for as long as you are staying.

In Sri Lanka that is worth saying out loud rather than burying in a list.

The rooftop café

The terrace is our rooftop café. Breakfast is served up there every morning, and it is included with the bed rather than sold beside it.

On Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, it is also where we hold the buffet family dinner. It is LKR 1,650 per person; tell us before 2:00 PM on the day if you want to join.

You do not have to be staying here to come up for it. The café is open to people who are not guests too.
